Radio U is a partnership program between the Media Institute for Social Change, XRAY.FM radio station, and Stream PDX. The course presents instruction for the journalist and technical skills necessary to produce audio documentaries. Students will attend weekly seminars where they learn digital recording and editing. They'll also be introduced to a variety of radio shows, podcasts, and audio resources to study interview techniques and narrative structure. Each student will ultimately develop their own short audio documentary.
The fall session will be offered on Tuesday evenings from October 10–November 28 (no class on Halloween or the week of Thanksgiving). Admission costs $50 per person. Scholarships are available for those who need it, and XRAY Members can take the course for $40. Most of the class sessions will be held at Citizen on N Mississippi Avenue, with special sessions at XRAY.FM studios and the Stream PDX trailer in the parking lot of Open Signal.
Admission is rolling and applications from qualified candidates are considered on a first-come, first-served basis. It is therefore your advantage to submit a completed application as early as possible as there are limited slots available. Please direct any questions to firstname.lastname@example.org.
Update: As of September 27, Radio U is full. When you complete the application, you will be adding your name to the waiting list. You will be notified if a spot opens up for you. The waiting list will also be first to be notified next time the class is offered.
